有一个不良少年得了重病，神智昏聩，灵魂出窍，惆怅得不知道去哪里。见有人来来往往的，就跟着他走。不知不觉到了冥王府，见到一个小官，是他以前认识的人。那个人为他检索户籍册，很长时间后皱着眉头说，你经常违抗父母的意思，按照法律应当进入镬汤监狱。但你现在阳寿还没完，可以先返回阳间，等到寿命终结再来受刑就可以了。那个不良少年非常害怕，给那个官员磕头寻求解脱的办法。官员摇摇头说，这个罪很重，不光我难给你解脱，就算是释迦牟尼也无能为力啊。少年痛哭流涕，不停地哀求。官员沉思了一会儿说：“有一个故事，你听说过吗？一个禅师登上座位，问，老虎下巴下边系了一个铃铛，谁能把它解下来？众人不能回答，一个小沙弥说，怎么不让那个系铃的人去解？从父母那里得到的罪孽，回去向父母忏悔，还有可能免除罪孽！少年考虑自己罪孽已经深重，不是一时就能忏悔的完的。官员笑笑说，还有一个故事，你没有听说过屠户王屠放下屠刀立地成佛的故事吗？于是就派了一个小鬼把他送回阳间，少年的病马上好了。从此开始洗心革面重新做人，变得父母都很疼爱他。
